I can’t have a blog about online dating without addressing the photo thing. I really do not understand peoples way of thinking, if it is a dating site, umm the photos need to be of you.
I am going to treat this post as a lesson as to what photos you should and should not post on your dating site profiles, because there is obviously a misunderstanding here.
DO post pictures of yourself! These should be CURRENT clear photographs, meaning within this year if not the last 6 months! We all like the way we looked when we were younger, but you do not look the same as you did 10 years ago, I don’t care who you are! If you think you are tricking people, ummm no, the quality of the photo is obvious and how will you explain it when you actually meet???
DO see that these photos are up close so the potential interest can actually see what you look like, if you are way in the distance, how can they see what you look like?
DO Take off the sunglasses for at least one or more of the shots, that hides what you look like as well.
DO take off the baseball caps or hats, if you’re bald, show it! Why try to hide it, we are going to find out when we meet.
DO show that you have teeth in at least one of your photos, if not it may be assumed that there is a teeth problem and you could miss that connection with possibly Mr/Ms Right!
DON’T post a group photo and not tell us which one is you.
DON’T only have one photo! Many red flags are thrown with this, top being, fake or hiding something but also it just doesn’t give us enough to get a good idea of your look. At least three photos in my opinion.
DON’T post pictures of you truck/car/boat, house, pet, kids, etc… UNLESS you are in the photo! This is SO common I cannot believe it. IT IS A DATING site, the photos are to be showing you. Yes I get that these are parts of you or hobbies etc but be IN the shot too! (I personally do not think pictures of kids belong on the dating site at all but that is up to the person I guess, internet is a scary place though, just saying)
DON’T photoshop your photos to alter what you look like, the fact that I even have to add this on here is disturbing, unless you never intend on meeting anyone in person how can this be of any help at all to you.
I think I covered the major ones, it’s common sense to me but I see all of these ALL the time!
I wish all the fakes, the married the mental’s would all disappear from the dating sites but they won’t, so watch for the red flags of fake accounts. Look at the pictures, do they look old, air brushed or altered in anyway? If so, tread lightly or RUN.
Happy iDating!
